After School Choir

Fall 2016

Schedule


Rehearsals will be held on the following Fridays from 2-3pm: 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, Thurs 11/10 (no school on 11/11), 11/18, Tues 11/22 (no school on 11/25), 12/2, Wed 12/7 (if needed), and Thurs 12/8 (with other choirs).


Performances: If you attend at least 10 rehearsals you will be eligible to perform with the select & concert choirs at the following concerts:

  • Council on Aging at the Mansfield Library on Hope Street - Friday, 12/9 12-1:50pm (walk up through Memorial park in concert attire - wear comfortable shoes and carry black dress shoes)

  • Winter Concert: Wednesday, 12/14 7pm show (choir arrive at 5:30 in concert attire) at MHS

  • St. Mary’s Interfaith Holiday Party - Thursday 12/15 7pm (arrive at the Rose Garden building behind St. Mary’s Church on Pratt St. by 6:30pm in concert attire).

  • Caroling at Home - Monday, 12/19 7:30 am -2:45 pm. Five concerts in the MHS auditorium performed for elementary children (be prepared to take the late bus).  Wear concert attire.

** After school choir is also invited to participate in the annual Cabaret shows on Feb 13 & 14.  I will create a rehearsal schedule after winter vacation.


Concert attire - Choir members are required to wear a specific outfit for all performances.  Girls must purchase (I have some used dresses you can buy at a reduced rate) a specific black dress (details to follow).  Also, girls will need to wear black dress shoes (no flip flops).  Guys need to purchase a black vest and tie from me.  In addition, each guy will need to wear a white button up dress shirt, black belt, black socks, and black dress shoes. Order forms and pricing information for the dresses and tie/vest will be distributed at a later date.

Choir, Drama, and Stagecraft

2016/2017

Fall PlayEurydice by Sarah Ruhl and Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer

  • Informational Meeting:  Monday, Sept 12th 2-2:30 - Auditorium

    • Explore the plot of the play, sign out a script, discuss rehearsal schedule

  • Auditions - Wednesday Sept 14th 2:00-4:00pm & Thursday Sept 15th 2:00-6:30pm - Auditorium

    • Prepare a personal story or a monologue (2-3 minutes in length)

    • Read from the Script

  • Callbacks: Friday,  Sept 16th 2:15-5:15pm - Auditorium (if needed)

  • Rehearsals: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays 2:15-4:15pm starting Sept. 19th (we may do evening rehearsals if there is a cast consensus)

  • Tech week rehearsals: Saturday, Oct 28 through Thursday, Nov 3rd (rehearsal times TBA)

  • Performances: Friday, Nov 4th & 5th @ 7pm (cast/crew called at 5:30pm)

MMAS Southeast Art Festival – Performing Arts fundraising event: Saturday, Sept 17 9:15am-4pm; Sunday, Sept 18 11am-4pm @ North Common, Mansfield, MA – Sell flowers, home baked items, paint pumpkins, and face painting.  All performing arts students invited to participate!

Select Choir & Concert Choir– Southeast District Auditions & Festival Information

  • Practice sessions in auditorium:

    • Tuesday , Oct 4th 2-2:45 Altos

    • Tuesday, Oct 11th 2-2:45 Guys

    • Tuesday, Oct 25th 2-2:45 Sopranos

  • Auditions for Mrs. Newton:

    • Tuesday, November 1st 2-3:30pm (sign up for a time)- auditorium

  • Auditions @ King Philip Regional High School: $15 audition fee (bus transportation will be provided)

    • Saturday, November 19th (Time – TBA – usually early in the morning)

  • Southeast District Music Festival Rehearsal/Concert (place TBA) - $25 participation fee. Bus transportation will be provided.

    • Friday,  January 6th (all day rehearsal)

    • Saturday, January 7th (morning rehearsal, concert usually at 2pm

Sing That Thing Reunion Concert - December 11th @ Cary Hall, Lexington, MA - Select Choir only (in concert attire) - 4pm concert (leave MHS at approximately 2pm)

MHS Winter Concert: - Wednesday, December 14th 7pm concert (choir/crew arrive at 5:30pm) - Choir Attire

St. Mary’s Interfaith Holiday Party: - Thursday, December 15th 7pm concert @ Rose Garden (behind St. Mary’s Church, Pratt St.) - Choir arrives at 6:30pm in choir attire. Transportation will not be provided by MHS.

Council on Aging Holiday Luncheon: Friday, December 9th at noon.  Hope Street, Mansfield.  We will walk (weather permitting) to the COA in concert attire (wear comfortable shoes/boots and carry your dress shoes for the walk). We will return to the school before the end of the school day.  Bring a bag lunch.

Caroling at Home – Monday, December 19th 7:30am-2:45pm in the MHS auditorium. We will perform five concerts throughout the day for elementary school children. Wear concert attire. Plan to take the late bus (the last concert will end at approx. 2:45pm)

All State Auditions & Festival - For students who qualify through SE District Audition

  • All State Auditions - Saturday, January 21st (Shrewsbury HS - Time TBA). Bus transportation will be provided.  $25 fee to audition.

  • All State Festival - Thursday - Saturday, March 9th-11th at the World Trade Center, Boston, MA. (fee to participate - TBD) - Bus transportation will not be provided.

  • All State Concert - Saturday, March 11th - Afternoon concert at Symphony Hall, Boston, MA.

Cabaret Night

  • After school rehearsalsMon, Tues (Feb 13, 14th) 2-5:30pm & Wed (Feb 15th) 5-9pm w/costumes & props – crew needed for all three rehearsals. These rehearsals will be mandatory.  On Mon & Tues, students who do not have a solo or are not in a small group number will be allowed to leave after we run the large group numbers. Everyone else will need to stay until your number is rehearsed. All choir members are required to attend the final dress rehearsal on the 15th. If you a have a game or other MHS conflict – email me at sheila.newton@mansfieldschools.com ASAP (no later than February 1) so we can discuss it.  

  • Performances Thursday & Friday (Feb 16th & 17th) 7pm show (choir/crew called at 5:30pm) **Parent volunteers will be needed! Students are asked to bring in desserts for the dessert buffet.  Additional information will be sent out at a later time.

Spring Musical - Auditions & rehearsals will take place in the auditorium

  • Audition prep - Thurs Feb 9th & Mon Feb 27th 2:15-3:15pm

  • AuditionsTues & Wed & Thurs (Feb 28, March 1st, March 2nd) 2:15-6:00pm

  • Callbacks – Sunday, March 4th 1-5pm (if necessary)

  • Performance Dates – Thursday,  May 18th @ 7:00pm; Friday,  May 19th @ 7:00pm;   Saturday,  May 20th @ 2pm & 7pm - strike and cast party following the show.

One Act Play Festival - Eurydice - Sat March 4th - Preliminary Round; Sat March 18th - Semifinal Round; March 30-April 1st - State Finals

MICCA Festival - For Select & Concert Choir at Norwood High School either March 31st,  April 1, or April 2 (specific date and time TBA).  Wear concert attire.

Spring Concert Wednesday, May 31th @ 7pm (choirs and crew called at 5:30pm) MHS Auditorium. Wear concert attire.

Graduation @ Xfinity Center– Sunday, June 10th 1pm – Comcast Center Stage – senior choir members arrive at 11:45am

Tony Night – Performing Arts Awards Night – June 11th at 5pm
