Les Misérables

Freshman French class

Bonjour,

On Friday,  April 7th, Mrs. Beck's French freshman and senior students had the honor of attending the play Les Misérables at the Orpheum Theater in Foxboro.
Accompanied by Mr. Sweet and Mrs. Donovan, students watched this sung-through musical based on the novel by French poet and novelist Victor Hugo.
Many of MHS own students had leading roles in the play, Jade April as Cosette, Nate April as Javert, Matthew Neary as Marius Pontmercy.
This outstanding performance has intrigued the freshman class to read the novel in French.
The students had an excellent experience and showed support to their peers in their endeavors.

Rhode Island School of Design Art Museum

MuseumJanuary 22, a combined group of thirty one French Club and French AP/French V students took the train from Mansfield to Providence to the Rhode Island School of Design Art Museum.
They saw authentic works by artists Berthe Morisot, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin, Vincent VanGogh, and Edouard Manet.
Many students did sketches or prepared to speak in French about what they learned.
French food vender
A local French food truck, Plouf Plouf, met the group and many tried "canard" (duck) for the first time and actually liked it.
They then had a talk about Roger Williams from a National Park Ranger, and then went on to admire the

Rhode Island State House where Governor Gina Raimundo greeted them, encouraging them to move to the Ocean State!
On the steps
After a brisk day of walking, the group warmed up at Cafe La France before boarding the train back to Mansfield.
Trip organizers Beth Donovan, Michael Sweet, and Carolina DiBiase were happy to expose MHS students to these local learning experiences.
