Class of 2016 Awards:
U.S. Marine Corps Award- Scholastic Excellence:
The United States Marine Corps Awards for Scholastic Excellence are given to two seniors that have demonstrated academic achievement and leadership by being a role model for other students.
This year’s winners are: Megha Koul & Christopher Elsner
U.S. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence:
The United States Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Awards for Musical Excellence are given to seniors with first chair positions, who are capable of performing as a soloist and are recognized as both outstanding performers and young citizens.
This year’s winner is: Charley Buckley
U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Awards:
The United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Awards are given to two senior athletes who are exemplary young citizens, role models for other students, and best exhibit the personal traits of courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership.
This year’s winners are: John Crawford & Jaclyn Carchedi
U.S. Air Force Award – Math & Science:
The United States Air Force Award for Math & Science is awarded to the senior with the highest grade point average in both math and science.

U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Awards:
The United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Awards are given to two seniors who have demonstrated excellence in both academics and athletics.
This year’s winners are: Juliana Newell & Michael Arnold
Mass. Secondary School Admin. Assoc. -Student Achievement Award: is given annually to an academically talented student, who through their own initiative, goes above and beyond to contribute to their school community. This year’s recipient is an outstanding student who is the epitome of this ideal offering a wealth of ideas, hard work, and spirit. We are pleased to bestow this award to Sarah Christo
The Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Certificate of Academic Excellence: is awarded annually to an academically talented senior who has committed themself to personal excellence through hard work, perseverance, and strength of character. This year’s recipient is: Nicolas Sardella
Principal’s Leadership Award:
The Principal’s Leadership Award is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and given to a student for their demonstrated ability to combine academic excellence and exemplary leadership role in school and community activities. I am pleased to present this award to: Joseph Bukuras
Principal’s Scholar Athlete Awards:
The Principal’s Scholar/Athlete Awards are given to the two Mansfield students nominated by the editors of the Boston Globe for their Scholar/Athlete Awards. The editors select student athletes from the six MIAA districts for academic excellence and sportsmanship. The selected athletes are then nominated for the Richard Phelps Scholar/Athlete Award. The Michael A. Trowbridge Sr. Public Service Award:
This award is given to the student who best exemplifies the values of public service and leadership through their contributions to our schools and community. The award is named for Michael Trowbridge, long time member of the Mansfield School Committee, in recognition of his over twenty years of service to the Mansfield Public Schools.

D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award:
The Massachusetts Daughters of the American Revolution Award is given to a senior who exemplifies qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their school, home and community. Nominated by the faculty and chosen by their classmates:

National Spanish Exam:
The following seniors received medals for their scores on the National Spanish Exam. The exam was taken by more than a quarter of a million students across the country in levels 1-5. This year’s Level 5 recipients are:

The National French exam, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, is taken nationally each year by over 100,000 students in levels 1-5:

Flag Awards:
The 35th annual Mansfield High School Flag award will be presented today to the senior boy and senior girl who, through their conduct and attitude, exemplify those qualities of American youth which are the best guarantee for the survival and success of the democratic principles upon which this nation was founded. These qualities include: honesty, involvement in school and community, acceptance of all races and ethnic groups, and a willingness to help those less fortunate. Students nominate each other, and then the faculty selects the award winners by a vote.

Boston Globe 2016 Scholastic Art Awards:
The Boston Globe holds an annual state wide art competition in January. The following student entered their work and were awarded the noted honors, reflecting their position as part of the top 1% of all art students.

Outstanding Social Studies Student Award:
The South Shore Social Studies Supervisors, an organization representing schools throughout Southeastern Massachusetts, recognizes two students each year who are planning to major in history or social science in college and have demonstrated exceptional achievement in social studies during high school. This year Mansfield is proud to present this award for the large school category to: Christopher Elsner
National Honor Society: Membership in the Mansfield High School Chapter is predicated on meeting and maintaining the society’s high standards of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. All of the following students have maintained an 88 cumulative average and have performed 20 hours of school and community-based service.
